GPE Companies is proud to announce that Becky Bishop, Assistant Property Manager, has earned the designation of LEED Green Associate.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Associate credential is for those who want to gain knowledge in green building construction and in the areas of operations and maintenance of buildings to make them more energy efficient. Becky wanted to learn more about “green” building practices and chose to seek out this credential as a way to gain that knowledge.

She first learned about LEED at the “Southwest Build It Green Expo” which she has attended for the past three years. It made sense for Becky to learn more about energy-saving ideas that applied directly to the operations and maintenance of buildings which she can apply to her daily job responsibilities with GPE Management Services.

“A landlord can benefit from the direct cost reduction associated with the energy use of the building and tenants benefit from the cost reduction of the operating expenses which are billed to them.” Beck mentioned. “Landlords can also get tax benefits as well as rebates designed as incentives by the utility companies to help reduce energy usage.”

Becky completed the Study Group which was approved by the USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) applied to be eligible to sit for the exam, was approved and passed with flying colors. “I intend to keep up with the ‘latest and greatest’ of all the new ‘green’ products and ‘green’ practices by attending conferences, seminars, and expos,” says Becky. She is required to complete 15 hours of continuing education every 2 years to maintain her credentials.

Congratulations Becky on a job well done!
